I believe there are three levels of self-awareness. The first is the self-awareness that comes from the experience of self. This is what you know and what you are. The second is the self-awareness that comes from the experience of other people, which is all about the things we know about ourselves, including our thoughts and reactions.
One of the very first things you learn to do in school is the class self-awareness. This involves knowing your name, your age, your grade, your subject, your test scores, your grade point average, your favorite colors, and your favorite foods. If you’re like most people you don’t like any of this stuff, because even though you know what it is, you don’t really know why you know it.
Self-awareness is a useful skill to have, but it’s easy to lose. It’s not an easy skill to get, but you can learn to get better at it if you keep at it. Once you know what the things you know and like are you can find an easier way to get the knowledge you want. The trouble is you always end up taking some other skill or behavior that happens to be at the same time useful but not easy to get.
The problem is that self-awareness is not good for everyone. Not everyone can be a self-aware person. Some people are so self-aware that they can be very angry. Others just choose to be angry, and not have any self-awareness about it. It is a skill that can be learned, and if you get better at it then you can become a better person. But even if you learn to get better at it, not everyone can become a self-aware person.
The first step in becoming a self-aware person is to figure out that you can be angry. If you’re in a bad mood, you can just decide to be angry. But people who are not aware of their emotions, or who just decide to be angry because they’re afraid of being punished for it, are going to get themselves in trouble. That’s why they need to find a way to be aware of the emotions they’re feeling.
