I think the way you describe is accurate. I think your point about it being the first thing that makes people feel uncomfortable is also pretty accurate. We’ve all been there and we’ve all had those moments where we have a thought or do something so ingrained that we feel like we’ve been stuck for days.
When I was in high school, I was in the first year of the program at the community college that had a computer lab. The first class we had was a series of computer classes. Most of these classes were run by an instructor who was an experienced IT professional and also a professor. One class stood out. This class was about how to set up a LAN, or network environment, and it was run by a professor who was a computer guy.
This instructor was a computer guy. That is not a word that pops up often when people think of computer experts. But for this class, the professor was a computer guy.
Computer experts are people who set up networks and computers to work together. When people think of people who set up computers, they usually think of someone who is a network administrator or network manager. What we’ve learned from this class is that a computer guy is a computer guy.
In the past, we’ve often heard people say computer experts are people with a computer background. The professor was not a computer guy but he was a computer guy. He had a great idea for a classroom assignment and he was trying to make us think for ourselves and build some computers. I was very impressed with how easily we all came to a common agreement on this.
No, seriously, we need to get back to building computers. I have a feeling this guy was just trying to make us think for ourselves, and we are now all thinking computer-wise.
