The 2008 Mercury Mariner was a tragic story of an aircraft that crashed and caught fire when it attempted to land. The crash, which took the lives of five people, sent the crew and passengers into a panic. After a lengthy investigation, the NTSB concluded that there was no indication of pilot error but rather, a malfunctioning instrument panel which failed to perform as expected.
When an airplane’s instruments fail to do what they’re supposed to, it’s usually because the crew’s lack of training or experience with the plane’s systems. Even if a plane crashes, the pilots generally recover quickly. When they fail, it’s usually because their instruments aren’t working well enough.
It could be a simple switch, a wiring or electrical problem, or a combination of the two. But the NTSB did say that it could be more likely to happen when a plane is flying at too high of a speed or altitude. We will only know soon enough.
The NTSB also said that it could be a failure of the autopilot, or that the pilots may have failed to keep the plane on the ground at all, or that the plane may have been flying too long at too high of an altitude without checking the weather. We have no idea.
In some ways it’s hard to tell what might be the problem. The NTSB says that the problem is in the engine, which is probably just as bad as the onboard gear change. The autopilot’s fuel tank is also at or near the bottom of the fuel tank, so it can’t go completely up to the engine. That’s bad enough.
It’s not that easy to diagnose, and the NTSB doesn’t really have any good diagnostic tools. So it’s going to take some years before we have the full picture.
It could be something with Mercury itself. Mercury has a pretty high propensity for cracking, but we have no idea what causes the problem. Even if we find out, it wouldnt be the end of the world. The problem is that in 2008 mercury will likely need a complete replacement engine. In the interim, we are looking at a number of things that could cause a problem with this engine.
First of all, if this engine is to be replaced, there will be a lot of pressure to get it right. The engine is the heart of the aircraft, and if it fails, the entire aircraft will fail. The first thing we will see is that this engine will only run at about 7,000 rpm. We have no idea how much load the engine must put on the aircraft, and we have yet to see any aircraft with engines that can handle the workload.

The mercury-powered aircraft have been in production for a decade, and the Mercury series of aircraft were designed to handle the same workload as the Mercury 1000 series. The Mercury 1000 series is the largest and most powerful (which is why the Mercury 2000 series is now getting replaced) and it has the advantage of being able to run around the world at up to 10,000 mph.
